The First Week of Internship at FRIM.

The First Week of Internship at FRIM (15-19 Feb 16)

Well, my first day at FRIM was awkward because i was alone from the very beginning. My friends did theirs at other places and most of them have someone they already know going at the same place. Since i'm staying at Sungai Buloh, i'm going there by riding my Honda Wave. Normally, it takes about 15-20 minutes riding and definitely more for those driving car.

Actually, I was late on the first day because i thought Human Resources is in the same building with Administration. So, i quickly went to Building B3 (Human Resources) from D1 (Administration). It was not difficult to find it because these building are very near to each other.

After briefing by representative from Cawangan Latihan, i was brought to Wood Entomology Laboratory (WEL) by Kak Nor, staff of WEL. Given a second briefing by my supervisor, Dr. Roszaini, about what this lab does and what everybody does, finally she brought me to tour around the lab and introduced her staff to me. 

The first and second day, it were very boring and i frequently dozed off during working hours. Not that i 'curi tulang' but imagine yourself in an air-conditioned room and you did nothing because there was nothing to be done. I tried so hard not to dozed off again. Cebause my superrrvisor is very allergic to intern that dozed off during working, reading romance novels, watching korean dramas etc. She's definitely going to deduct marks. 

Alhamdulillah, on the third day i finally have something to do. I can make myself busy doing work until friday. My mini project was changed to an interesting new project. Both of the projects are for RnD purposes but the new project seems advantageous to me. Even though what these lab does has nothing related to my field study, however the equipments that i'm going to work with are definitely the same as in my school. The title of my new project is : Chemical Composition and natural durability of juvenile and mature Kelempayan heartwood.and the equipment are soxhlet extractor (to extract sth), rotary evaporator (to obtain pure product), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (to analyze compound) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.

In this lab, we also have to work outside since we are playing with termite. HAHAHA i neverrr thought that one day i will play with that insect because I was and am not an insect-okay person. We have to make trap in order to lure the termite in. We have to 'redah' hutan only to get termite that are living inside fallen trees. However, i really appreciate these experiences because i knew i would never have these at other places. I have been informed by my SV, that in early of April, we will head to Mata Air, Perlis for work. YEAYYYYY!
